Sohaib Nazeer Sultan Sohaib Nazeer Sultan: Muslim Chaplain

Sohaib Nazeer Sultan has been a student of the Islamic tradition since childhood and has had the opportunity to study with well-known Muslim scholars in the East and West. After completing his B.A. at Indiana University in Journalism and Political Science, Sohaib moved to Chicago where he pursued a career as a freelance journalist and authored his first book, The Koran for Dummies, as part of the famous for Dummies series published by Wiley Publishing Inc., in 2004.

Around the same time Sohaib worked on a special project with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Radio serving as an Islamic affairs analyst and participating in Muslim-Christian dialogue.

While authoring his first book, Sohaib found his passion in teaching Islamic sciences and consequently enrolled in the Master's program at the Hartford Seminary where he is pursuing a degree in Islamic Studies & Christian-Muslim Relations, and Islamic Chaplaincy. In 2005, Sohaib was hired as Trinity College's first ever Muslim Chaplain and awarded Yale University's first ever Muslim Chaplain Fellowship, and in 2006 was hired as Muslim Chaplain at Wesleyan University. Currently, Sohaib continues to work as a chaplain, author, and public speaker.

Muslim Chaplain Khalid Latif

Khalid Latif : Muslim Chaplain

NYU's Muslim chaplain, Khalid Latif, has been newly appointed as the New York Police Department's Muslim chaplain.

The appointment comes after weeks of speculation that Latif may leave the university to accept job offers at either Yale University or Harvard University. Latif plans to retain his position as NYU's Muslim chaplain.

Latif said he accepted the job with the NYPD because it was part time, and allowed him to remain affiliated with NYU and remain in New York City. He said he didn't want to leave because he enjoyed the diverse environment provided by the city.

"The diversity in the city is not like anywhere else. All the traditional and cultural backgrounds - male, female, young, old - I feel is indicative of what the NYPD stands for as an institution," Latif said. "It is a reflection of that diversity as is NYU. You do have a lot of opportunity to create dialogue and not neglect that which is different."
